Chocolate in a green smoothie? Yes! Why not?! One day I woke up with the biggest craving for chocolate. I knew I wanted to start my day with a green smoothie so I figured, I’d add chocolate to my smoothie. The trick was figuring out how to get it sweet without too much fruit and no added sugar. Bananas and dates give a sweet balance to the bitter cacao and greens. The color will be a deep green, practically brown. It’s not a bad thing just different! The color has nothing to do with the flavor. I hope you try it and enjoy it!
Ingredients
- 2 ½ frozen bananas*
- 1 cup water (or non-dairy milk)
- 1-2 handfuls spinach
- 1-2 kale leaves, stems removed
- 1 pitted date, or more for sweetness**
- 1 ½ tbsp cacao powder
- 2-4 tsps cacao nibs, optional
*Note: If you haven’t had time to freeze the ripe bananas, just use 3 ripened bananas and add ice.
**Note2: If you don’t have dates, use a few (3 to 5) frozen mango chunks! TRUST ME!
Instructions
- Add all of the ingredients and blend until smooth.
